AIDS Walk: Join Our Team!

As our Values in Action program for the month of June, we will be teaming up with the Secular Society of MIT and the Secular Coalition for Massachusetts to put together a Secular New England team for the Boston AIDS Walk. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a tangible difference in the world, to meet like-minded folks in the area, to bring neighboring secular communities together, and to show the world what it means to be good without God.

Our team’s fundraising goal is an ambitious $10,000. With your help, I think we can get there!

1. Join our team. Click here to get to our team page, then scroll down a bit to the team roster and click “Join Team” next to the title. Having trouble? Email our fearless team captain, Dan Harris of SSOMIT, at dmh [at] math.mit.edu.

2. Raise some money. Yes, asking people to donate sounds intimidating, but unless you take that leap, people don’t get treatment and scientists don’t get to research cures. Not sure where to start? The AIDS Action Committee provides a handy fundraising toolkit. Check out my fundraising crash course from back when we did the Light the Night walk for leukemia & lymphoma for some more tips to get you going.

3. Take a victory lap. The walk will take place on Sunday, June 2, and will start and finish at the Hatch Shell on the Esplanade. Details are available here.
